Writing arguments in an analysis of substantive topics or texts is a skill
needed for high school writing success.  Students will learn specific tools to:
• Introduce a precise claim, establish the significance of the claim, and
distinguish it from alternate or opposing claims.
• Supply evidence for both, pointing out the strength and weaknesses
of each for the reader.
• Use transitions and transitional phrases to link the sections of text to
create a cohesive argument.
